Why Young-Earth Creation Matters

I have naively believed for far too long that if a person regularly attends church, sings songs about how God created the world, mentions creation in prayers or liturgy, or homeschools her children, that she must therefore be a creationist.

Those in the old-earth camp say they believe God created the world but that He used long periods of time to allow evolution to take its course.

How to Teach Chemistry and Physics

Why Teaching Chemistry and Physics Is So Hard
  1. It’s been 20 years since you had high school math or science.
  2. You weren’t paying attention 20 years ago.
  3. You didn’t even understand it if you had paid attention.
  4. You didn’t think you’d ever need to know this stuff.

The Curriculum Carousel (Round and Round We Go…)

Ask any veteran homeschooler about burn-out, and she’ll quickly get to the topic of curriculum. What mother hasn’t sincerely purchased piles of curriculum only to discover later that her choices were a terrible fit for her family? (Waving my hand here!)

If you’re already partway into your homeschooling year, yet you’re worried about the curriculum choices you’ve made, you probably don’t have the money to just throw it all away and start over.

Nature Walk Scavenger Hunt

Our nearby "forest"

This week our children went on a nature walk to a nearby “forest” that our school district sponsors. It’s a beautiful sanctuary, not far at all from our house.

Because I hadn’t been feeling so well, I decided to send them on a scavenger hunt, with a list of what to take and what to find.

Science Projects?

I am looking for good websites and books that describe HOW to do a science project, with ideas for projects and step-by-step guidance on how to research, write, display, and enter contests, etc.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know!
